Rural World Impetus Inc

We are a group of native Congolese, from the rural province of Idiofa, Kwilu (DRC), who want to help our communities, whose populations have remained in absolute poverty for decades. 

Our communities have remained poor for many reasons. These include structural factors such as lack of practical roads connecting rural areas to commercial centers, lack of healthcare services, an over dispersion of the population that is scattered throughout small and isolated villages, lack of access to communication, lack of clean water leading to waterborne diseases. Besides, a failing education system has continued to produce graduates from elementary, and high school who are incapable of competing on equal feet with others children from well connected and established provinces or schools.

Consequently, children in rural areas are completely left behind, which perpetuates the poverty cycles.

We are a nonprofit organization which seeks to break poverty cycle in rural impoverished areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo, through education, health and community empowerment (2CE). Our activities include implementing extracurricular activities we have developed, with support from the Harlem’s Children Zone, to support the development of cognitive and non-cognitive skills among children attending our selected schools. Besides, we help in build school infrastructure and healthcare facilities to improve access to healthcare service and ensure children attending school are healthy because we are intervening in a zone where enteric infections and malaria are highly prevalent. In addition, our activities will also include empowering families in the selected communities through the organization of a rural agricultural cooperative. Finally, our program includes a learning component, which involves data collection, analysis, and dissemination to inform necessary adjustments and scale up in other regions/countries. Hence, the idea about Rural World Impetus Inc. to help break these poverty cycles, by closing this gap.
