Who We Are

Children’s Law Center of Central North Carolina provides children with quality legal advocacy focusing on domestic violence issues, high conflict custody cases, and the rights of children in public education. To increase children’s potential to become emotionally healthy adults through fostering their sense of hope and empowerment. Founded in 2005, CLC emerged from the efforts of a group of civic-minded Winston-Salem attorneys who were volunteering their time to represent children involved in complex family court cases. As demand for this work grew, the attorneys recognized the need for a dedicated nonprofit focused solely on ensuring that children have a voice in the legal decisions that shape their lives. CLC began as the Child Advocacy Program of Legal Aid of Northwest North Carolina before launching as an independent nonprofit organization in September 2005 under the leadership of founders Penny Spry and Amy Kuhlman. Today, CLC serves children from birth through age 18 in Forsyth and Guilford Counties, providing expert legal advocacy at no cost to the children we serve.

What We Do

Children’s Law Center of Central North Carolina advocates for what is in the best interest of children. By bringing to bear a deep understanding of legal and educational systems and partnering within those systems and community, CLC elevates children’s voices and rights. Whether serving as Guardian ad Litem in domestic violence or high conflict custody cases or advocating for children’s educational rights, Children’s Law Center provides pathways and supports that lead to better outcomes and safer, brighter futures for children. Children’s Law Center of Central North Carolina currently serves children in Forsyth and Guilford Counties.
