Who We Are

Pivot exists to empower working-aged, low-income women for better life and work opportunities.

Pivot's vision is that all of us flourish to be all we were created to be in relationships with ourselves, God, others, and our respective resources.

Brief Pivot History:  Now a separate nonprofit envisioned by Ardmore Baptist Church in 2015, Pivot is based on a national model and was developed with over two years of extensive research and prayer.  Pivot launched its first semester of classes in the spring of 2018 and the fall 2024 is its ninth graduating class of motivated participants.  To date there are 46 delightful women who are Pivot graduates.  We sustain those graduates through Pivot Plus, continuing community, encouragement, and learning opportunities.

Pivot's Future:  Pivot is sustained by prayer, myriad volunteers, generous donors, engaged graduates, dedicated mentors, and a collaborative community.  More volunteers are always welcomed...so come explore your opportunities! Connect us with your church, civic club, or other small group for presentations and more info.  A Latina expansion is also anticipated, so stay tuned!  Come join the marvelous effort and experience joy and results.

What We Do

Pivot works with working-age low-income women who are:

  • ready to make a change in life
  • without minor dependents in the home  (rare exceptions)
  • willing to commit and to participate in weekly classes
  • interested in building community with others
  • open to Biblical foundation and 1-on-1 Christian mentor.

Pivot offers:

1. Classes in life skills, job readiness, and Bible study

2. One-on-one Christian mentors for each participant

3. An asset-based development approach

  • building upon participants’ strengths, not needs
  • committing to long-term change and progress
  • creating a trusted small-group community for participants

4. Community collaboration

  • linking to – not duplicating – existing programs, training, resources
  • connecting with grassroots leaders to identify participants and build trusting relationships
  • encouraging participants to find ways in which they can give back to their respective communities.

Pivot classes for Spring 2025.  Can you refer a woman to join our class?  We accept up to 10 motivated women.  We also welcome bilingual women to help us explore modifications for the Latina ministry down the road.  Interviews will take place in January and early February before classes start.

Classes have historically met:

  • At the Enterprise Center, 1922 S. MLK Jr. Drive
  • One day a week for 16 weeks, followed by a grand graduation ceremony.
