Description

The Greater Winston-Salem Homeless Persons' Memorial Day occurs near winter solstice, the shortest day of the year and the longest night of the year. It is a time for community people, professional, pastors, and providers to assemble to remember the dearly beloved who lived, suffered, and died related to their time as a person living with homelessness.

This is an opportunity to remember the people we loved and to remember people we didn't know. It is a time to reflect on homelessness and on the common life given to us by the Creator. It's a time to know that homelessness is a reversible social injustice.

Planning starts in October and the usual date of the service is December 21 (but this year that's a Saturday). All are welcome to take care of the details that will create community interest and greater community response as we seek to grow the scope of this service now in its fourth year.
