Hosting a Littles In Waiting activity is a meaningful and fun way for volunteer groups to get involved!
Our Littles In Waiting mentoring program provides monthly, staff-supervised activities at the BBBS Mentoring Center for children who are waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister.

Volunteers can lead activities that are informational and skill-based (like life skills, job readiness, or sharing about your career) or simply fun and engaging (such as cooking, crafting, or sharing your favorite hobby).

This program helps build resilience, encourages goal-setting, teaches life skills, and surrounds youth who are waiting to be matched with a caring, supportive community.

Whether you have a few hours now and then or want to volunteer regularly, we always need helping hands to support our neighbors transitioning into stable housing. greeNest runs entirely on volunteer power—and there’s a place for everyone!

Please attend one of our New Volunteer Orientations.

We're open Tuesday–Friday (10AM–4PM) and Saturday (9AM–Noon).

Volunteer tasks may include:

Assembling starter packs (kitchen, bath, bed, dining)

Styling and tidying the showroom spaces

Guiding families through their shopping experience (with training) 

Moving and unloading donated furniture

Cleaning and preparing household items

We are scheduling events throughout the year to give away bikes.

Help needed! Cycle Recycle needs a couple of volunteers with trucks or vans to be available to carry bikes on occasion. We don't carry bikes too often, but it would be helpful to have a couple of volunteers to call when we do so. Please reply to let me know if you can do this.  Call me at 336-525-6482.

Very part-time.

We are receiving bike donations throughout the week.  We need someone who can run point to call donor and arrange the bike drop off or pick up from their home.  Helpful to have a van when the donor has multiple bikes.  

We accept gently used children and adult bikes. We value every bike donation to us in love to pass along to someone who needs a bike.  We provide refurbished bikes to persons through our community partners. 

Please call 336-525-6482 and leave a message or write us at cyclerecycle@LoveOutLoudWS.com to arrange a drop off or to have someone pick it up.  To date, we have refurbished and have ready 185 bikes in our warehouse and probably another 100 to be repaired.

Moving books from the donation pod in our parking lot into the book processing center.  Requires lifting boxes of books and using a dolly.  This needs to be done a few times per week, come regularly or volunteer for a day here and there.

Clothing processors will grade, sort and hang.fold clothing and accessories to be displayed in the boutique.

Our Re:dress Clothing Boutique began in March 2011 with the goal of providing gently used or new clothing items to families in Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities. As we provide these clothing items, each shopper is respected as a unique individual worthy of dignity and respect. Hope restored is our ultimate goal.

The Re:dress program is open to everyone. Any individual desiring assistance, regardless of income status, may browse our store free of charge. One life changed, and one smile restored is the only reward we look for. Broken hearts set free by love will make a difference in any family’s future.

Group project:  The grounds around our building need some TLC!  There are two large areas that need trimming and weed clean up; one faces the street and could also use some beautification.

What do I need to wear when volunteering?  Please wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. NO OPEN TOE OR HEEL SHOES WILL BE ALLOWED! (ie: flipflops, sandals, etc).

What is the ReStore?  The Habitat ReStore sells gently-used furniture, appliances, fixtures, surplus building materials, and other items at 25-75% off their regular retail prices.  All proceeds are used to build affordable Habitat homes in our community.

What will I do when volunteering in the ReStore?  When volunteering in the ReStore, you might help with accepting, moving and preparing donations for the sales floor while also assisting the ReStore staff and customers.

Age 14 - 17 need parent to sign a waiver.  Contact debbie.cesta@habitatforstyth.org to get a youth waiver.

Minimum age is 14. Those 14-15 need a parent guardian to work with them for their entire shift. Both individuals and groups are welcome. Email debbie.cesta@habitatforsyth.org to set up a group volunteer event.
