Are you an animal lover? We need volunteers to assist staff with keeping the facility clean and ensuring the animals have the care they need. Typical tasks include cleaning (e.g. sweeping, mopping, cleaning litter boxes, cleaning cat rooms, dishes, laundry) and making cat enrichments.

Available Shift Times: Any day from 9:00AM-11:00AM. We currently have most openings on Friday and Saturday mornings.

Joy Prom is a celebration of unity through an outpouring of love and acceptance for our guests.

The Red Carpet Cheering Crowd  cheer for our guests and make them feel like the "Stars" they are as they walk down the red carpet. Cheering consists of clapping , waving and cheering words of encouragement. Cheering begins once the guest name is announced and the guest begins walking the runway. The announcer will let you know if the guest requested a silent cheer. A silent cheer is just waving, no clapping or cheers. 

This opportunity typically takes approximately 2 hours.

You are asked to arrive at 5:00PM in order to have time to check in at the volunteer check-in station and then take your place along the red carpet no later than 5:30 PM. Red carpet historically has opened 5-10 minutes prior to the published time and all who are volunteering for the red carpet cheering crowd must be ready once the event begins.

All volunteers are required to wear a volunteer badge.

You will receive more detailed information the week prior to the event. Shelley, Joy Prom Executive Director, or one of the leaders for that area will provide last minutes details to the volunteers just prior to the first guest walking the red carpet.

Do you love caring for children? This may be the opportunity for you! The Flourish Program provides childcare during our weekly meetings so that our moms can fully participate and engage in the education and small group time. Our kids range in age from infant to nine to ten-year-olds. The children are offered help with their school homework as well as fun, creative activities!

Childcare volunteers are needed every Monday and Tuesday from 6-7:30pm (though we would love to have you join us for our community meal at 5:30 also). If you like kids, please volunteer to help our Childcare Coordinator take care of these wonderful children! We encourage both individuals and teams to sign up if they are interested!

Elementary students eagerly await volunteer tutors for the 2025/26 school year! Heart Math Tutoring (“HMT or Heart”) is partnered with 3 schools in Winston-Salem to support over 150 students in developing foundational math skills and confidence. HMT provides tutor training, easy-to-follow lesson plans, and program support to volunteers. Tutoring will take place in-person at Bolton, Easton, and Petree Elementary schools. Volunteers commit to tutoring for 30 minutes or one hour per week. Host/ Hostess ensure the guest is enjoying the activities of the guest's choice. The Hostess remains with the guest until the guest is reunited with their parent/caretaker at the end of the evening.

Overview: The Literacy Community Outreach Ambassador role is a vital position within our organization aimed at expanding our reach and impact within the Guilford County community. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about literacy, community engagement, and making a positive difference in people's lives through education. As a Literacy Community Outreach Ambassador, you will represent our organization, build partnerships, and develop initiatives to promote literacy awareness and engagement across diverse communities. As a Literacy Community Outreach Ambassador, you will help identify and coordinate (in conjunction with staff) outreach events and activities including; attending community fairs and events, tabling, networking meetings and more to help connect the community to both external and internal community outreach purposes related to the mission and purpose of the organization.

Summary: If you enjoy giving back to your community, meeting new people, attending local community events and sharing information about what you are passionate about then becoming a literacy outreach ambassador is the volunteer opportunity for you! Reading Connections exists to support these individuals in reaching their literacy goals. Not being able to read or write in English hinders one's ability to get a job, thrive in a career, seek proper healthcare, and engage with their community. Reading Connections exists to support these individuals in reaching their literacy goals. We're looking for dedicated volunteers to tutor students one-on-one and in small groups to improve their reading, writing, speaking, listening, math, technology, and employability skills.

Our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program seeks tutors to support non-native English speakers. Training and resources are provided for all tutors. Tutors are matched with students based on their areas of interest and availability. All new tutors must complete a 2-hour training before being matched with a student. We offer free monthly training sessions on Zoom. Tutoring takes place at our offices in Greensboro and High Point or in other public spaces throughout Guilford County.  

Responsibilities:

Time Commitment: Tutors are asked to meet with their student(s) for 2-4 hours each week for six months

Hosting a Littles In Waiting activity is a meaningful and fun way for volunteer groups to get involved!
Our Littles In Waiting mentoring program provides monthly, staff-supervised activities at the BBBS Mentoring Center for children who are waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister.

Volunteers can lead activities that are informational and skill-based (like life skills, job readiness, or sharing about your career) or simply fun and engaging (such as cooking, crafting, or sharing your favorite hobby).

This program helps build resilience, encourages goal-setting, teaches life skills, and surrounds youth who are waiting to be matched with a caring, supportive community.

*The Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk Steering Committee is recruiting for new committee members! 

Volunteers for the Greater Greensboro CROP Hunger Walk Steering Committee need to be at least 21 years old and willing to serve for the walk planning year, January- November. Areas of interest for the steering committee include recruiting, publicity, recruitment, and office assistance/printing & packing materials. 

Committee members attend monthly meetings which are held the second Tuesday of each month (Either by Zoom or at Greensboro Urban Ministry's boardroom, 305 W. In Forsyth County, Extension Master Gardener volunteer training is typically held once each year. In addition to completing the 40-hour training course, EMG students are also required to volunteer 40 hours of their time with Extension in order to become certified Extension Master Gardener volunteers. Following successful certification, EMG volunteers are expected to continue accumulating a certain number of volunteer and continuing education hours each year to remain certified (the exact numbers are subject to change if the need arises). 

The EMG volunteer program is open to all members of the community who are willing and able to complete volunteer work with Extension in Forsyth County. How can you help a child in need? A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is appointed to represent the best interests of a juvenile when a petition alleging abuse or neglect is filed in District Court by the Department of Social Services. The judge appoints a trained volunteer GAL Advocate to work alongside the Attorney Advocate to provide team representation to the child.

The role of Guardian ad Litem is to protect and promote the best interests of the juvenile, conduct independent investigations to determine the facts, needs of the child, report the wishes of the child, and make recommendations to the court to promote permanency.

We have a recycling warehouse that recycles Styrofoam to save the environment of products that do not break down. This center accepts both clean food service containers – cups, egg cartons, and take-out boxes – as well as packaging materials used for coolers and shipping fragile products.

Volunteers can assist on Mondays and Fridays with this process:

1. Verify that the material is clean and free from tape and labels.
2. Feed the material into the densifier. The foam is ground up, heated, and extruded.
3. Shape the extruded material into manageable bricklike ingots.
The ingots are then stacked on shipping pallets for shipping to manufacturers who will start the material on its next journey of usefulness. 

Duties include: Recycling foam located at 1218 Elon Place. Serving and cleaning at the HOPE Center, located at 360 West Gate City Blvd.

Hours are Monday - Friday 9 - 4:30. No weekends available.

Did you know that Forsyth County ranks near the bottom of all counties nationally in financial mobility? The Flourish Program is trying to change the cycle of poverty in Forsyth County by giving low-income women the resources and relationships to step out of poverty. But we need your help!

As recent studies indicate, a key factor in reducing poverty is a relationship with someone who is financially stable. We are looking for Companion volunteers, individuals willing to walk alongside these brave women in their journey out of poverty, supporting them through encouragement, goal setting, and accountability. One of our returning Companions, Nancy, describes her experience volunteering this way: “I find my work with Flourish extremely fulfilling.  There are many ways to "help" people who are struggling financially but this is the only organization I know of where we build relationships with the people we are wanting to help.  I am certainly giving of myself each week but I am also receiving.  I am inspired by these strong, determined women committed to their growth.”

Each week The Shalom Project we provides grocery items and fresh produce to 125 families in our community who are experiencing food insecurity.

We need people to greet and help shoppers push rolling carts of items to their vehicles, break down cardboard for recycling, help replenish produce on tables for shoppers and carry some clothing items from our downstairs clothing closet.

We welcome and encourage bi-lingual volunteers to help us welcome and  serve the diverse cultures in our community.

Who Can Adopt-a-Stream?
Anyone can adopt a stream. Families, neighborhoods, organizations, businesses, civic groups, churches, schools, and youth groups have all adopted streams in Greensboro.

What Will Your Adopt-a-Stream Group Do?
Your group will be responsible for facilitating a stream cleanup at least twice a year for a minimum of two years. The City will place a sign bearing your group's name along the road by your adopted stream segment.

Not ready to adopt a stream? Don't worry. You or your group can still make a positive impact by participating in a Clean-a-Creek cleanup without the commitment to adopt.

Choose a section of the City and hit those streets to glue signs (drain markers) to storm drain covers. The markers serve as a visual reminder that only rainwater should go down these drains.  The time commitment for this program varies and is based on volunteer availability, however, a minimum of 20 markers is required per every two people in a group.  All the supplies are provided to you for this fun and easy project that has lasting value.

Definition of Stormwater: The runoff of rain and other water sources that washes over impervious surfaces such as roadways, collecting chemicals, oil, and other pollutants, which then flows into our storm drains. What enters our storm drains is not treated like our wastewater water is; it goes directly into our streams, many of which eventually drain into our lakes.

The group meets each Saturday, year-round. This is a good opportunity for someone considering a career in ministry, education or social service. You do not have to commit to each week. Most of our mentors come once per month.

The group of primarily low-income Hispanic/Latino teens will spend some time discussing a topic related to Biblical principles, then spend the rest of the meeting on topics related to navigating growing up in the world today. This may include life skills training and opportunities to try new things like drama or a field trip to a ropes course. If the group is small that day, we may simply "hang out" and play games or do crafts. This often provides the best opportunities for one-on-one mentorship.

 Spanish language skills are extremely helpful but not required.

We also need mentors who are available on weekend times other than our usual meeting time because sometimes our field trips happen on a Friday or Saturday night instead.

On Tuesday evenings during the school year come help students in grades K - 3 with their reading skills. You will help them practice letters and skills as well as practice reading with a computer program like RazKids or Starfall. You'll also spend time reading together with one of the many books we have in our library. 

If the student has homework, you will assist with that before moving on to a reading lesson.

Our Kids Club is for older elementary students (grades 4 & 5). It meets every Tuesday evening during the school year. At Kids Club we practice social emotional skills while also trying new things and learning about the world around us. Mentors help run the program, guide children in making wise decisions, controlling emotions, navigating conflict, etc. 

 We are currently recruiting for weekly mentors as well as substitutes to help lead/teach the program for the evening when our regular mentors are unavailable (often they are college students). If you have a special skill or learning experience (juggling? a STEAM activity?) you would like to teach the children for a few sessions in a row or even just one, please be in touch. 

Our Blessings Box outside our community center needs a steady supply of non-perishable food, toiletries, and other small items for our neighbors in need. Certain perishable items are acceptable if they are "shelf stable" for up to 24 hours (for example, bread, some fruits or vegetables), weather permitting. We are also accepting larger items (such as bulk packages) that we will store inside the building which we will place into the box as needed or share with members of the community who we visit (those who may not have transportation to get to the box easily). Please call ahead if you have bulk items (336-724-0850).

The box is small, but in winter it is also nice to put a hat, gloves, or a scarf inside for our neighbors who need an extra bit of warmth. We ask that you NOT put clothing in the box. Thank you.

We are seeking tutors to help our middle and high school students with math, reading, ESOL, passing the GED, and/or general study habits. In addition, on days when students have no homework, we need folks who are willing to mentor youth by spending time with them, offering a listening ear, words of wisdom, and practical advice when needed. Our students are looking for help with things like: applying for jobs, navigating relationships, and managing personal finances.

The group will meet Thursday evenings during the school year and occasionally during the summer.

Board Member Responsibilities
• Attend board and committee meetings and special events (we have quarterly meetings, currently via Zoom)
• Know and understand the organization’s mission, services, policies, and programs
• Review meeting agendas and supporting materials before board and committee meetings
• Serve on committee task force as needed
• Make a personal financial contribution to the organization
• Inform others about the organization
• Keep up to date on the organization’s field of operations
• Follow conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies
• Assist the Board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviewing financial statements

Guardian ad Litem (GAL) volunteers serve as court-appointed advocates and the voice for children in the juvenile court system.  GALs do an independent investigation into the circumstances of these children’s lives, facilitate their needs being met by helping locate community resources, and advocate that those services be put into place. Furthermore, we attend court hearings on behalf of the child to report to the court what we feel is in a child’s best interest concerning their life.  We do so until these children are out of the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services and into a safe, permanent home. 

GALs visit with the child once per month and make contact on a regular basis with the other pertinent people in their life to help advocate for their best interest.  Most GALs spend 12-15 hours per month performing their duties as a court-appointed advocate. Most of the time spent volunteering is mostly flexible and built around the GAL’s schedule.

We are looking for dedicated, Christ-loving members of our community to come and build relationships throughout the day at our His Path Developmental Day Program. Our His Path Hereos love to make new friends! You could help in the craft room, share your skills & talents by teaching a class, spend time with us & develop friendships, lead us in worship, help plan a cooking lesson, etc! The sky is the limit!
