Help fundraise for Crisis Control Ministry by volunteering with the Thrifty Finds & Treasures program as the eBay site fundraiser. You'll work alongside of three other volunteers who manage the Thrifty Finds & Treasures consignment program to sort through donations and research if they would be good to sell on eBay. You'll take photos and upload them to the Crisis Control Ministry eBay site. You'll monitor the site and respond to buyer questions. You'll also prepare and pack items for shipping. The Director of the Kernersville Office will work with you to take the items to the post office. You'll go back into the eBay site to mark items sold.

This is a wonderful family service opportunity!!! 

NOTE:  If you are coming as a family or as part of a group, please register using the "respond as team" on the registration form.  You can just use your last name or whatever as the team name (it doesn't matter what you decide to use for the team name) and then register yourself and then add other volunteers that will be coming as well so that we can make sure to have a name badge made for everyone who will be there. 

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION BELOW REGARDING VOLUNTEERS AGE 5-13 *PRIOR* TO REGISTERING TO VOLUNTEER FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY.

Volunteers ages 5 to 13 are welcome to join us for this volunteer opportunity ONLY.Volunteers ages 5 to 13 MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the ENTIRE time they are on site at the stadium. Please remember that our guests are the star of the evening and all attention should be solely focused on the guest.Please note, while this opportunity states ages 5 to 13 as appropriate ages to volunteer, please note that any children that volunteer for this event are expected to be able to follow directions and stay behind the ropes going down the red carpet.  If your child is prone to having melt downs, running away from their caregiver, yelling at inappropriate times, or simply not acting in a manner that is appropriate for the decorum of this event, etc, this is not the best opportunity for them to volunteer for.  Any person (adult or child) that behaves in a manner that is inappropriate or distracts from our guests will be asked to leave.  Historically this area is livestreamed on WXII's Facebook page. Appropriate behavior and attire are especially important in this area during this time.  All volunteers, regardless of age, are expected to dress appropriately (clean & neat) for this event.   Volunteers are welcome to wear cocktail or formal attire if they would like but are not required to.  Women/girls should wear at minimum a dress or nice pants and a blouse.  Men/boys are asked to please wear a collared shirt (a tie is optional but is always nice looking!) and slacks. Joy Prom Winston-Salem is a full-scale, annual prom for the special needs individuals and those with disabilities in our community. Established in 2015, we welcome guests ages 16+, with any physical, developmental, or intellectual "different ability!" Joy Prom is more than a dance or one night event. Joy Prom is a celebration of unity through an outpouring of love and acceptance for our guests.


The Red Carpet Cheering Crowd  cheer for our guests and make them feel like the "Stars" they are as they walk down the red carpet. Cheering consists of clapping , waving and cheering words of encouragement. Cheering begins once the guest name is announced and the guest begins walking the runway. The announcer will let you know if the guest requested a silent cheer. A silent cheer is just waving, no clapping or cheers. 

This opportunity typically takes approximately 2 hours.

You are asked to arrive at 5:00PM in order to have time to check in at the volunteer check-in station and then take your place along the red carpet no later than 5:30 PM. Red carpet historically has opened 5-10 minutes prior to the published time and all who are volunteering for the red carpet cheering crowd must be ready once the event begins.

All volunteers are required to wear a volunteer badge.

This may be the opportunity for you! The Flourish Program provides childcare during our weekly meetings so that our moms can fully participate and engage in the education and small group time. Our kids range in age from infant to nine to ten-year-olds. The children are offered help with their school homework as well as fun, creative activities!

Childcare volunteers are needed every Monday and Tuesday from 6-7:30pm (though we would love to have you join us for our community meal at 5:30 also). If you like kids, please volunteer to help our Childcare Coordinator take care of these wonderful children! We encourage both individuals and teams to sign up if they are interested!

Age/Skills/Experience: This opportunity is for ages 16+. No experience required. Though the opportunity does involve climbing stairs and potentially going outdoors to the playground

We're looking for dedicated volunteers to tutor students one-on-one and in small groups to improve their reading, writing, speaking, listening, math, technology, and employability skills.

Our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program seeks tutors to support non-native English speakers. Training and resources are provided for all tutors. Tutors are matched with students based on their areas of interest and availability. All new tutors must complete a 2-hour training before being matched with a student. We offer free monthly training sessions on Zoom. Tutoring takes place at our offices in Greensboro and High Point or in other public spaces throughout Guilford County.  

Responsibilities:

We're looking for dedicated volunteers to tutor students one-on-one and in small groups to improve their reading, writing, speaking, listening, math, technology, and employability skills.

Our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program is seeking tutors to support non-native English speakers. Training and resources are provided for all tutors. All tutoring sessions are conducted virtually.

Requirements

Access to the Internet and computer or laptop Comfortable using online meeting platforms like Zoom, or willing to learn Must complete a volunteer application form Must attend one orientation session on Zoom  Must complete a one-hour, online, self-paced training that qualifies them to tutor one-on-one or in small groups

Identify good candidates to either coach toward creating their own selfie video and/or record an interview on Zoom. Attend meetings with fellow team members. Keep a digital portfolio of your work.

Volunteer: Recycling Warehouse

We have a recycling warehouse that recycles Styrofoam to save the environment of products that do not break down. This center accepts both clean food service containers – cups, egg cartons, and take-out boxes – as well as packaging materials used for coolers and shipping fragile products.

Volunteers can assist on Mondays and Fridays with this process:

1. Verify that the material is clean and free from tape and labels.
2. Feed the material into the densifier. The foam is ground up, heated, and extruded.
3. Shape the extruded material into manageable bricklike ingots.
The ingots are then stacked on shipping pallets for shipping to manufacturers who will start the material on its next journey of usefulness.

We have a recycling warehouse that recycles Styrofoam to save the environment of products that do not break down. This center accepts both clean food service containers – cups, egg cartons, and take-out boxes – as well as packaging materials used for coolers and shipping fragile products.

Volunteers can assist on Mondays and Fridays with this process:

1. Verify that the material is clean and free from tape and labels.
2. Feed the material into the densifier. The foam is ground up, heated, and extruded.
3. Shape the extruded material into manageable bricklike ingots.
The ingots are then stacked on shipping pallets for shipping to manufacturers who will start the material on its next journey of usefulness.

We are looking for Companion volunteers, individuals willing to walk alongside these brave women in their journey out of poverty, supporting them through encouragement, goal setting, and accountability. One of our returning Companions, Nancy, describes her experience volunteering this way: “I find my work with Flourish extremely fulfilling.  There are many ways to "help" people who are struggling financially but this is the only organization I know of where we build relationships with the people we are wanting to help.  I am certainly giving of myself each week but I am also receiving.  I am inspired by these strong, determined women committed to their growth.”

The role of the Companion is to attend our weekly meetings and provide encouragement, help with goal setting, and accountability for the women in our program (Achievers). Definition of Stormwater: The runoff of rain and other water sources that washes over impervious surfaces such as roadways, collecting chemicals, oil, and other pollutants, which then flows into our storm drains. What enters our storm drains is not treated like our wastewater water is; it goes directly into our streams, many of which eventually drain into our lakes.

If the group is small that day, we may simply "hang out" and play games or do crafts. This often provides the best opportunities for one-on-one mentorship.

We are also accepting larger items (such as bulk packages) that we will store inside the building which we will place into the box as needed or share with members of the community who we visit (those who may not have transportation to get to the box easily).
