United Way of Greater Greensboro’s Mentoring Matters initiative works to increase the number of mentors and improve the effectiveness of mentoring programs in the Greater Greensboro area.

Mentors help keep students in school, improve self-esteem, and set career goals and take steps to realize them. 

Greensboro Parks and Recreation seeks volunteer groups of up to 15 volunteers to assist with landscaping projects at various facilities. Our distribution sites are all found in food deserts, where access to fresh produce is extremely limited. Since opening its doors in 2005, the Next Step Ministries Thrift Store has been a wonderful addition to our ministry.  The store provides a significant amount of financial support for our operations.  It continues to grow and thrive, contributing  just over 50% of our total annual income.  In addition, guests and nonresidential clients are given the opportunity to shop at the store at no charge. Often times, guests come to us without much more than they clothes on their backs.  Donating to us ensures that we will have inventory to meet the needs of our guests of all ages and sizes.

We are looking for one or more volunteers to assist with running our youth volunteer program - YASS Kids Club.

We currently meet on Saturdays from 10am - 12noon at the sanctuary. The kids learn about the animal residents and help with cleaning, food, water, enrichment, and special projects.

It is fairly informal now, but we do have a membership card, forms, signup, etc.

The ideal person enjoys children and animals and can help with coordinating plans and supply list needs for each week as well as being present during the Saturday volunteer time.

Often parents stay to help and there are a few older kids who attend regularly that are great helpers.

Almost everything is outdoors, so it is always weather permitting. We are also flexible to fill in or skip any weeks you are not available. Also open to multiple volunteers that work together for a monthly or bi-weekly commitment.

The WS Opportunity Project is seeking student members to serve on our youth leadership team. We work with our students' parents in regards to tuition based on a tipping scale, so for us, this means we rely on volunteers and donors in many areas but in particular to provide meals, which is a big, important need in our school. Red Cross is seeking volunteers to be a part of their volunteer dispatch team. Disaster Dispatch Team volunteers receive calls and details from the local Emergency Management Service (911) about local disasters including home fires.

They alert Red Cross’s Disaster Action Team (DAT) who respond to provide emotional support, financial assistance, and information to help families begin the process of recovery. Duty Officers provide support to the DAT team throughout the response. All training is provided by Red Cross.

Positive Wellness Alliance is a nonprofit that serves a specific under-served population and we are looking for volunteers for our food pantry. We have positions for Monday-Wednesday and occasionally on Thursdays. Monday and Tuesday volunteers will help load and unload our van with donated items from Lowe's Food and Food Lion between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm. Also, on Tuesday afternoons volunteers will also help load and unload items from Second Harvest. Wednesday is when our food pantry is open for distribution between 10:00 am-12:00 pm. Volunteers will fill the food box with the necessary items. Volunteers will then help clients transport food boxes to their vehicle if needed. On Thursday volunteers will help assist the food pantry coordinator with food box deliveries. 

Volunteers need to be punctual, able to lift 25-45lbs and have reliable transportation.

We are seeking actively engaged women who would like to contribute to the emergence of young women leaders facilitating community service, in Forsyth County and the surrounding areas.

We need help to search prospective donors and organizations that would be interested in in-kind donations for supplies. We also would like brainstorming ideas about how to raise fund outside of grants. We also would appreciate help in locating grants.

Our mission is to improve the lives of rural deprived communities in Democratic Republic of Congo through education, health, and economic self-sufficiency.

This specific project is named “Improving accessibility and efficiency of diagnostic services in the territory of Idiofa (DRC)”.

Greensboro Parks and Recreation's Adopt-a-Street program is a great way to give back to your community in a way that fits into your busy schedule. We ask our volunteers to clean their adopted street 4 times per year or once every 3 months if possible. All supplies will be provided to you such as vests/bags/gloves/hand grabber to assist with your clean up day.

Our Parks and Recreation department supports volunteers with the knowledge and experience needed to enhance public spaces. Volunteers of all ages, individuals, small or large groups, and corporations who want to improve their community are welcomed.

Our mission is to break poverty cycles in deprived rural areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo, through education and community empowerment.

Help our elderly homeowners by completing yard projects for them such as raking, trimming bushes and clearing brush.   These projects are best for groups of 5-10 people.

Lifeline Shoebox is looking for a volunteer that is able to assist with creating an Instagram and helping with our Facebook page (technical issues). We would like to update the Facebook page to reflex changes in the organization. The volunteer will assist in creating marketing/brand guidelines, creating a quarterly newsletter template, and brainstorm potiental social media campaigns and content.

Clothing associates assist clients with selections of items of clothing and accessories.

Our Re:dress Clothing Boutique began in March 2011 with the goal of providing gently used or new clothing items to families in Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities. As we provide these clothing items, each shopper is respected as a unique individual worthy of dignity and respect. Hope restored is our ultimate goal.

The Re:dress program is open to everyone. Any individual desiring assistance, regardless of income status, may browse our store free of charge. One life changed, and one smile restored is the only reward we look for. Broken hearts set free by love will make a difference in any family’s future.

Processors will sort, hang/fold baby items, and prepare layette bags for partnering agencies to distribute to families participating in parenting classes.

A part of the Triad Dream Center since 2015, Outreach Alliance for Babies works with community agencies in Forsyth County that have identified clients with "significant financial" needs which prevent them from purchasing needed items for their child. The client may either be in the last trimester of pregnancy or have an infant, newborn to twelve months of age.

To date, over 2500 babies have received assistance from Outreach Alliance for Babies, Inc. A typical layette consists of a tote bag stocked with diapers, diaper wipes, wash cloths, baby wash, baby lotion, sleep and play sets, onesies, bibs, receiving blankets, etc.

Warehouse associates stock shelves, prepare bags of food for distribution, and assist clients to cars with food.

Intake associates talk directly to clients and input information into data base.

Well Spring Solutions Memory Care Center offers adult day services to adults 60 and older with a diagnosis of dementia. Within nurturing and safe settings, members enjoy a full slate of activities designed to enhance memory fitness and stimulate cognition. We are looking for volunteers to enhance the experience of our members by spending time with them as a friend, helping out where needed within our center, sharing any special talents or skills you have, or assisting our staff with programs and activities within the center. Times are flexible (currently we have an immediate need for volunteers from 2-4) Give us a call, this volunteer experience will enrich your life!

ESR's Forsyth Free Tax program is searching for committed volunteers to help provide intake and prepare taxes for this upcoming tax season. No experience necessary. All training is provided, and the training certification is required. Volunteers are asked to volunteer between 5 and 40 hours per week with a flexible schedule at one of our 8 tax sites throughout Forsyth County. Tax preparation services are provided at no charge for people who meet the income guidelines. Volunteers are asked to prepare the taxes which will be checked by a tax expert, or they can help check people in as they arrive to have their taxes prepared.

Training time is contingent upon the role for which the volunteer plans to certify.

Volunteers should be certified by January 21 or 28 (this date is not confirmed until the IRS gives notice regarding acceptance of electronically-filed returns).

We are in need of volunteers to assist with office work – filing, making copies, putting together client folders, sorting laundry, stocking the mastectomy supplies, etc.

This volunteer position answers the phones and greets clients.  It is a regular weekly volunteer assignment, either in the mornings or afternoons one day a week.  In addition, we need volunteers trained on this position that can fill in when one of the regular volunteers is unavailable.

We are in need of volunteers who will assist our Patient Advocates by making follow-up calls to clients.  We try and touch base with our active clients about once every 3 months.  We prefer, but do not require, to have volunteers who are cancer survivors make these calls.

Purpose of position: Camp-ins are an overnight experience where scouts work on a variety of badges.  Volunteers assist in the evening with crafts and activities, food preparation and serving, and set-up/clean-up.

It takes more than research to win the fight against cancer. The Road to Recovery program gives thousands of rides in North Carolina each year, but we could do more in the Piedmont with your help.  Our Forsyth Volunteer driver team needs more drivers, please consider joining us.  Road to Recovery also needs more volunteer drivers in Lexington, Mocksville, Danbury, Mt. Airy and Elkin.
