Who We Are
The SECU Family House is a compassionate, comfortable alternative to a hospital waiting room or an expensive hotel for people facing the challenge of out-of-town medical care. We opened our doors in 2011, thanks to the vision of Winston-Salem residents Beth and Sandy Baldwin who experienced the warmth of a hospital hospitality house while their son, Branner, was undergoing treatment out of town. After Branner passed away soon after returning to Winston-Salem, Beth and Sandy used their son’s memory to ignite a committee tasked with creating a similar home away from home in Winston-Salem. After years of hard work, collaboration with the medical centers, and support from the entire community, the SECU Family House opened its doors to guests in September 2011. Since opening, we have served over 34,000 individuals.
What We Do
The SECU Family House on the Richard J. Reynolds, III & Marie M. Reynolds Campus provides affordable lodging and support services in a caring environment for referred adult patients and/or their caregivers who travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for medical treatment. The 45-bedroom facility offers a fully-equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, opportunities for prepared meals, and scheduled transportation to and from the hospital for only $40 a night. A Family Assistance Fund is available. We like to say that we provide "more than just a place to stay" because we provide a variety of support services thanks to volunteers and community support--including meals, pet therapy, snack & breakfast bags, homemade goodies, and more.
