Who We Are

The world is in upheaval. That includes the church, which is undergoing a kind of unmasking in our moment. In response, School of Love seeks to practice intercultural life together for the renewal of Jesus-rooted discipleship in our time: life together in Christ for others. Various strands of historic Christian expression inform our pursuit.  Just as the origin of “school” denotes formation (instead of mere information), the origin of “radical” means “to get at the root.”

School of Love’s singular focus is on the root of Christian discipleship: love of God and neighbor in Jesus Christ. Love is what Jesus means when he says, “Follow me.” The result is a discipleship that emphasizes deep formation into the Jesus-way, and justice, liberation, and beloved community across systemic divides in our community.

What We Do

School of Love works to establish new rhythms of life together for the sake of (1) deep formation into the Christian life and (2) justice and beloved community across systemic divides in Winston-Salem.

The central way School of Love leans into love-rooted discipleship is through its intercultural cohorts. The cohorts, equally People of Color and white, are organized around historic Christian practices, or what we call Rhythms of Life Together: Common Prayer, Sabbath, Justice, Education, Tarrying, Breaking Bread, Pilgrimage, Retreat, Confession, and Mutual Aid. For us, these rhythms constitute the Spirit’s curriculum in Christ’s school of Love.
