Description

Alzheimer's disease is one of the most critical public health issues in America.  Roger ColeAdvocacy Ambassador “Becoming an Alzheimer’s Advocate and Ambassador is one small way I can honor the lives of both Mom and Dad and do my small part in helping to end this disease.“      The number of Americans living with Alzheimer's is growing — and growing fast. In the U.S., someone develops the disease every 65 seconds. While Alzheimer's places a huge burden on the health care system, with annual costs exceeding a quarter of a trillion dollars, the cost is far more than financial. One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer's or another dementia. This is why we unrelentingly advocate for the rights of the Alzheimer’s and dementia community, as well as critical research funding. We advocate to change the trajectory of this disease. Public Policy volunteers help improve the quality of care and quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families by carrying our message to elected officials at the federal, state and local levels.  ALZHEIMER’S AMBASSADORS Ambassadors serve as the main point of in-district contact for a targeted member of Congress, helping the Alzheimer's Association achieve its federal policy priorities. They develop trusted relationships with their assigned congressional office through ongoing, personal contacts, drawing upon proven techniques and the support of Association National and Chapter staff. Ambassadors perform a number of grassroots advocacy activities that include periodic in-district meetings with elected officials, attendance at the annual Alzheimer's Association Advocacy Forum in Washington D.C., written and online communication with elected officials, participation in monthly calls & training sessions, and outreach to local media outlets. Political experience is not required, and we will assign you to elected officials based on where you live and your interests.    DID YOU KNOW...... ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE IS THE 6TH LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE UNITED STATES. 5 MILLION PEOPLE ARE LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER’S. OVER 16 MILLION FAMILY & FRIENDS ARE CARING FOR THEM. ALZHEIMER'S IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE DISEASE IN AMERICA. ALZHEIMER'S IS THE ONLY CAUSE OF DEATH AMONG THE TOP 10 IN AMERICA THAT CANNOT BE PREVENTED, CURED OR EVEN SLOWED. Our advocates play a critical role in our efforts to influence Alzheimer’s and dementia policy at the federal and state level. Working together we are making an impact.
