The job does require some traveling.  We will be traveling over to Durham to play their Challenger Team, as well as traveling down to Charlotte to participate in a tournament with other teams. This will take place at the Carolina Panthers practice facility.

Coaching Responsibilities:

  • Be on time to scheduled games each week.
  • Ability to teach players knowledge and skills of football.
  • Emphasizes teamwork, fairplay, skill development, and most importantly, fun.
  • Knowledge of Challenger League Rules and how to play.
  • Desire to see possible accommodations for players that might be missed.

Challenger Football League Rules:

  • Each coach will be given a copy of the Challenger League Official Rulebook so they can become familiarized with how the game is played.
  • Games will be played between two teams, consisting of a minimum of five (5) players on each team. On each team roster should be a maximum of 15 players, and a minimum of 10. Note: if there are only five (5) players on the offensive side of the ball, four (4) must line up on the line of scrimmage and only one (1) will be in the backfield. Defensive may line up however they want.
  • Mandatory play rule: All players will receive equal play time.
  • There are two 20-minute halves with a continuously running game clock.
  • A team has four downs to make it to midfield and then another four downs to make it to the end zone.
  • There will be no winners or losers, and the score will not be kept. Each possession will result in a touchdown, regardless if the ball is turned over.
  • Each child is to touch the ball. It is of utmost importance for the coach to try to ‘spread the ball around’ so that everyone is participating.  Once someone has touched the ball, they must wait until every other player has touched the ball until they are allowed to again. Similarly, once a player scores a touchdown, they must wait until every player has had the opportunity to score a touchdown.
