Volunteers play a vital role in keeping the iCan House running smoothly. We want every volunteer to be involved, creative, and enthusiastic! The volunteer schedule is individualized and adjusted based on your availability, interest, and skills. Our goal is to create a positive experience for all, giving you exactly what you need.
Volunteers are scheduled based on their availability and our needs.
As an afternoon program volunteer, you will:
- Build understanding and gain experience in how to interact in social situations with different people
- Engage in exciting social situations and build great friendships
- Learn about NEURODIVERSITY, ADHD, autism, and related disorders
- Participate in fun activities that teach social and communication skills
- Meet people and network within the community
- Become a part of the iCan House family
Volunteers work directly with our trained facilitators in social groups. They help to run a fun and effective group learning environment. Programs meet in the afternoon, 4:30-6:00 pm on weekdays, at various locations in the community.
Volunteers must be familiar and comfortable:
- Working with children, teens, and/or adults who have social and learning differences
- Assisting with classroom and group management
- Assisting the facilitator with members, supporting, and redirecting the behavior
- Modeling positive social skills and behaviors
- Setting up and cleaning up the area
- Communicating any behavioral concerns appropriately to the facilitator promptly
- Assisting with implementing the iCan House social skills curriculum
- Learning the iCan House Rules and enforcing them
- Maintaining a professional relationship with iCan House members, families, and staff
- Maintaining a positive attitude and being enthusiastic
- Assisting with snacks and food when necessary
